SEC takeover idea unrealistic
The newest ridiculous idea to take over the SEC by the mayor was seen by many years ago.
It’s another attempted power grab by a guy who really has no council to speak of other than the one that chooses to raise their shaking hands and say “aye” in the monthly meetings to whatever happens to amuse him at the time.
It’s been that way for two decades. Socorro has far more pressing critical problems that should be addressed before this insane attempt to take on a multimillion dollar albatross is loaded on top of the already-breaking backs of the hard working people of Socorro. And let’s not forget the time and unbelievable amounts of money it will cost.
How about the shameful prescription and street drug problems that are killing our children at an alarming rate? How about the joblessness and child poverty that is eating us alive from the inside out? How about the crumbling streets and trash strewn properties?
What about the development of the south end of Socorro’s main street? What about the almost non-existent relationship with New Mexico Tech and the people that live on those campus hills? Is our water really up to specs? How about the tire fire still burning directly across the street from our only medical campus, nursing home and the ever hailed mayor’s new soccer field in the industrial park. Industrial Park? Really?
This co-op deal the mayor’s got going is nothing but the kind of distractions he likes to throw out there, so we all forget about what really matters. The election’s over and Socorro just falls back into the same old hazy nightmare state and wakes up to another ground hog day — every day! If you heard that any other city in New Mexico was even thinking about this insanity, you’d laugh and turn the channel.
Unfortunately, this has been going on forever. Since when do the mayor and eight other people get away with even thinking out loud about such an absurd idea?
Since people became complacent and quit caring, that’s when.
