Magdalena Ranger District to host open house Saturday
The Cibola National Forest and Grasslands, Magdalena Ranger District Staff invites the public to an open house at the District’s new office 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. Saturday, July 12.
The open house will be held during Magdalena’s annual Old Timers’ Festival. Activities will include tours of the building, refreshments and a celebration of Smokey Bear’s 70th Birthday.
The 8,300 square foot energy-efficient building is located at 203 1st St., at the corner of Kelly Road and U.S. Highway 60 in Magdalena. The district also had a new 9,000 square-foot warehouse built to house the fire staff. The warehouse is located at State Road 107 and includes administrative offices, metal/wood and machine shop, warehouse storage and engine bays.
Tracing its roots from 1899 with the creation of the Gila Forest Reserve, Magdalena Ranger District has been part of Magdalena’s community for more than a century.
At approximately 800,000 acres (320,000 hectares), the Magdalena Ranger District is the largest district on the Cibola National Forest and is located in Socorro, Catron and Sierra Counties.
