BOTTJER — Marguerite “Peg” Bottjer, 83,  passed away on Thursday July 10th in Socorro.  She was born in New York City, the daughter of Dr. Peter and Mrs. Marguerite Conroy.  She grew up in Scarsdale, NY.  She attended Vassar College on scholarship, majoring in chemistry.  She obtained subsequent graduate degrees in secondary science education from Harvard University and in inorganic chemistry from the University of Illinois.  In her young adulthood she worked as a chemist at Allied Chemical in New Jersey; during this time she met her husband of over 50 years, the late Dr. William “Bill” Bottjer.  Later in life she became a science teacher at East Henderson High School in East Flat Rock, NC.  She was actively involved in organizing western square dance events in western North Carolina for many years.  She is survived by her two children (Mr. Mark Bottjer of Socorro and Dr. Carol Bottjer of Belen).  Her funeral service was performed on the day of her passing at Good Samaritan Society in Socorro.  In lieu of flowers, Peg’s family has requested that any donations in her memory be made to Good Samaritan Society in Socorro.  She will be buried in Western North Carolina.
