Magdalena Schools welcome new staff
A new school year is upon us and many changes are evident at Magdalena Schools.
Going into his 10th year as superintendent is Mike Chambers, who issued greetings to new and returning students in a July 28 letter.
“We look forward to seeing the return of veteran staff and students as well as meeting new students,” Chambers said, “and, as always, invite our parents and community to join us as we move forward to a new year with new challenges.”
“Magdalena Schools welcomes several new staff members to our school community,” he said. “Scott Dean is a new high school social studies teacher and head football coach. Peggy Hardman joins our staff from Socorro and will be teaching high school social sciences, and Cynthia Connolly will be the new high school science teacher.”
Joining Magdalena Middle School will be science teacher Kyl Candelaria and language arts teacher DeAnn Luce.
“Not new to our district, but with new responsibilities, are Leslie Clark as assistant principal for both the middle school and high school and Jory Mirabal, who will be taking over as athletic director,” Chambers said.
Practice for fall sports begins officially on Aug. 11.
“Students should pick up a packet and schedule physicals,” he said. “Paperwork must be returned and physicals in hand before starting practice. Contact Coach Scott Dean for football or Coach Bryan Baca for volleyball.”
The 2014-15 school year for Magdalena students this year begins on Aug. 18, with staff reporting on Aug. 14.
“We are still accepting new applications for enrollment,” Chambers said. “School offices are open Monday through Thursday during the rest of the summer.”
