Warriors sell mattresses, raise funds

Susann Mikkelson/El Defensor Chieftain: The Socorro Warriors host a Mattress Palooza to raise funds for their high school football program.

The Socorro Warriors football team raised approximately $2,500 last Saturday from the Mattress Palooza held at the high school gymnasium. The funds will help support general costs for the team. This was the Warriors' first Mattress Palooza, but it is a fundraising technique that is becoming more common in schools around the region.

Socorro CAP cadet headed for Air Force Academy


Hanson Oxford, a cadet in the Socorro Composite Squadron of the Civil Air Patrol, has received an appointment to the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo., and will begin his training there in June. Oxford, the son of William and Christina Oxford, graduates from Socorro High School on Friday.
