Beta Sigma Phi state convention

New Mexico Tech’s Macey Center was the site of Beta Sigma Phi’s statewide convention last weekend, bringing approximately 140 members to Socorro. Beta Sigma Phi is an international women’s civic sorority formed to create friendships and be community involved.

“It’s about making friends, it’s about learning all your life, and it’s about helping others as we help ourselves become the best women we can be,” state president Laura Wingfield said. “There’s almost no community thing we don’t get behind.” The purpose of the annual convention is to “connect with all of our state sisters and have a good time,” local member Rosie Tripp said. “And here in Socorro we’ve been really active. We furnished the neonatal room up at the hospital. We’ve provided swing sets for the park and other community projects.” Pictured from left are Rosie Tripp, Wingfield and Keri Penner.
