On the evening of December 24, 2018, God took another good cowboy home. Donald Lee Spears, 85, passed away peacefully on Christmas eve in Hobbs, N.M.
He was the son of Cowboy Robert Lee Spears and Agnes Redwine Spears. Mr. Spears was born on July 19, 1933, in Lovington, N.M. He married Mary Margaret Rogers in Lovington on June 7, 1952 and they have shared 66 years of life and love together. Donald Lee was affectionately known by many as “Duck.” He was a Lea County Original and will be greatly missed. He was a great neighbor, a “helluva” a cowboy and friend to many.
Surviving him is his wife Mary Margaret; three daughters: Mary Lee and husband Jay Clelland of North Carolina, Donna Spears Johnson of Lovington and Sarah Ann Spears of Hobbs,N.M.
Memorial services werewill be held on Sunday, January 6, 2019, at Kirby-Smith-Rogers Chapel at 3 p.m. with the family officiating.
