Juan Maria Martinez 1956-2019

Juan Maria Martinez, 62, passed away Friday, March 29, 2019.

He was born in Socorro on October 11, 1956, to Juan and Vivian "ViVi" Martinez.

He would go all around Socorro to visit with family and friends and was always ready to tell a joke. He was full of joy, laughter, and always had a smile on his face. Juan served 18 years in the National Guard. He was sent to boot camp in New York and Minnesota, and was sent to the Sante Fe Riot. He enjoyed wood working, made a few canes, kitchen cabinets, and built new additions to a few homes. He was also a very talented artist. He would often take his notebook around town and sketch the local buildings such as San Miguel Church, the Plaza, The Mill, homes, and any other buildings or structures that caught his eye.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Vivian Martinez, Juanita "Tita" Martinez, cousin, Alice Flores, granddaughter, Mariah Garza, nieces, Mercedes Gonzales and Pamela Martinez.

Juan is survived by father, Juan G. Martinez; daughters, Christine Martinez, Celina Martinez, and Cathy (Jeremy) Jaramillo; sisters, Annabelle Gonzales, Elaine Ross, Linda (Joey) Baca, Nancy De Los Santos; a brother, Andy Martinez; wife, Emily Martinez; granddaughters, Samantha (Sean) Castellano, Carla Gutierrez, Carina Gutierrez, Mariah-Jailyn Jaedess Jaramillo, Samantha Savedra, Sabrina Savedra; grandsons, Leondro Pilar Padilla, Tony Garza, Mathew (Kayla Rios) Garza; great-grandchildren, Andre Gonzales, Aliyah Castellano, Adilene Jae Garza, and Jacob Savedra. Juan loved being surrounded by his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren; they were the loves of his life. 

A rosary was recited at 8:30 a.m., Wednesday, April 10, at the San Miguel Catholic Church. A Mass of Resurrection was celebrated at 9 a.m. after the rosary with Father John Anasiudu presiding.

Burial took place after the service at the San Miguel Cemetery.
