Estela P. Ulibarri February 27, 1930 – May 25, 2019

Estela P. Ulibarri, age 89, entered into eternal rest on Saturday, May 25, 2019, at her home in Socorro, New Mexico.

She was born on February 27th 1930 in Bosquecito, N.M. to Altagracia G. and Carlos T. Padilla.

Estela began her work life at an early age, leaving school at the eighth grade, and helping to raise her youngest brother and sister after losing their parents within six months of each other. She always spoke fondly of her time at the Val Verde hotel and had many stories to tell. She was a dispatcher and security for White Sands/Stallion Site Center and retired as Administrator of the Senior Companion/Foster Grandparent program of Socorro County.

Her proudest accomplishment was attaining her GED diploma when she was in her 50s and then going on to earn a Nursing Assistant Certification and becoming one of the first employees at the newly opened “Good Sam” of Socorro. She made many blankets, embroidered beautifully, canned her peaches and apricots making them into jams and jellies and made the best empanadas! She never met anyone she didn’t want to feed so if you went to visit – you better go hungry because she would make sure you left her house with a full belly.

She was preceded in death by her parents and all her siblings. Sisters: Emena Montoya and her husband Jose, Albina Montoya and her husband Daniel, Josefita Muller and her husband Frank, Mary Rose Trujillo and her husband Ernest; Brothers: Nestor Padilla and his wife Sara, Santiago Padilla and his wife Julia, and Alex Padilla as well as by her nieces; Monica Harrison, Yolanda Nuanez, Betty Lou Zamora and Rachel Trujillo, and nephew Donicio Padilla.

She is survived by her daughter, Nadine Ulibarri-Keller and husband Deacon Nicholas Keller, sons Benjamin Ulibarri and Roger Ulibarri, and her grandson Eric Ulibarri. Additionally she is survived by her step-granddaughter, Kirstin Keller and her two sons Nicholas and Jobe Hawkinson. She leaves behind many nieces and nephews who adored her, several cousins and many special friends.

Rosary to be recited at 7 p.m., Friday, June 7, at San Miguel Catholic Church, 403 El Camino Real, Socorro. Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 8. Celebrant will be the Rev. John Anasiudu. Burial will take place at San Pedro Community Cemetery following service.

Pallbearers will be Helen Salazar, Gloria Martinez-Armijo, Grace Logan and Roberta Padilla y Trujillo.
