Jose Eligio Gutierrez II

Jose Eligio Gutierrez III, age 81, was called home on Monday, July 8, 2019 in Las Cruces, New Mexico. Joe, as he was fondly known as, was a lifelong resident of Socorro. He was born on January 27, 1938 in Valverde, New Mexico to Jose Eligio Gutierrez, Jr and Aurelia Carriaga Gutierrez.

Joe was a Socorro High School graduate and proudly served four years in the United States Marine Corps.

After serving his country, he returned to his beloved Socorro. He was an avid fan of the Socorro Warriors sports programs and was a staple at all of the home games. Joe was a kind and generous man, who cherished the time he spent with his family and friends. Joe was much loved, and will be sorely missed by all of those whose lives he touched.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Lillie G. Baca; and his two brothers, David and Elias Gutierrez.

He is survived by his sister, Jessie and her husband Lorenzo Llamas of Las Cruces, New Mexico; a niece, Rose and her husband Dennis Rivet; a nephew Joey E. and his wife Linda Baca of Socorro, New Mexico; sister-in-law, Amy Gutierrez; nephews and nieces, DavidTomm, Danny, Delores, Denise, and Doreen, all of Wapato, Washington; Libby Gutierrez; Jeff Gutierrez; Nicole and her husband Kirk of Las Cruces, New Mexico; and Joe’s special friends, Chuck and his wife "Tweetie" Ngo; and Chuck’s sons, Avery and Jovan Ngo, all of Socorro, New Mexico.

A special thanks to the caregivers who tended to him; the staff at the Casa de Oro, the Mesilla Valley Hospice in Las Cruces, Dr. Octavio Saenz and staff at the Spinal Cord Injury Unit at the Albuquerque VA Hospital, Pastor Westfall for officiating services, and Glenda Chavez and staff at Daniels Funeral Home for their care of beloved Joe.

Graveside service was held at 10 a.m., Thursday, July 11, 2019, at the Socorro Cemetery, Blue Canyon Road, Socorro, New Mexico.

Pallbearers will be Lorenzo Llamas, Dennis Rivet, Joey Baca, Chuck Ngo, Avery Ngo, and Larry Gonzales.

Honorary Pallbearers are Cleto Vasquez, Jovan Ngo, and all of Joe's many friends.
