Alamo students to participate in nursing certification class

Marlene T. Herrera Community Services Director

Six Alamo students are set to attend an intense 10-week Certified Nursing Assistant program that is being offered by Eastern New Mexico University-Roswell Branch.

The pilot program includes high school students involved with the Health Careers Opportunity Program. The purpose of the HCOP program is to increase the interest of youth to pursue careers in a health profession.

The high school students are concurrently enrolled in the CNA class, meaning they will earn five college credit hours in addition to their graduation requirements.

At the end of the program, all participants will be tested with the New Mexico Nursing Board for certification. The CNA certification is an industry-recognized credential that validates preparation for the workforce.
