Old Timers back in Magdalena

The Magdalena Old Timers' Association and the people of Magdalena are all ready to begin the festivities of the 33rd Annual Magdalena Old Timers' Reunion this weekend, July 9-11.

This year brings a few changes to the activities. First, the Ranch Rodeo has been expanded. There are many more teams this year than in years past, so the event will be held over a two-day time period.

Also new this year is the "Our Farm to You," which will provide entertainment just for kids. This will include games, train rides on the Enchantment Express, the Barn Fun Jump, a 50-foot Alligator Obstacle Course, and lots more.

The Old Timers Co-Ed Softball Tournament will be held Saturday and Sunday, July 10-11, at Mansell field in Magdalena. The entry fee will be $125 per team. A $50 nonrefundable deposit is required to guarantee a spot, which is limited to the first 10 teams. There will be prizes for teams in first through fourth places, as well as male and female Most Valuable Player awards. For more information, contact Ben Leo at (505) 854-2734.

Of course there will be the traditional parade, roping, fiddle contest, barbecue, dances and crowning of the new queen. Other fun entertainment includes arts and crafts, a quilt raffle, and an Indian Village. London Frontier Theatre will present "Stagecoach to Decameron" in the old WPA Gym on South Main Street, at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday; and 2 p.m. Sunday.
