Saturday, June 18, 2005 State launches new diabetes Web siteNew Mexicans are just a click away from information and services to aid in controlling their diabetes. Thanks to the recent launch of a Web site by the New Mexico Department of Health's Diabetes Prevention and Control Program, users now have easy access to forms, information and services available in their community and statewide. The new Web site is address is www.diabetesnm.org. The statewide directory of diabetes services is organized by county and is designed as a resource to help people with diabetes locate providers close to home. The directory provides complete contact information and lists the kinds of services available, such as diabetes education, nutrition education and support groups. The directory even lists languages spoken and the types of insurance that individual providers accept. People with diabetes and their families can learn about Kitchen Creations, a statewide cooking school that teaches participants to make appropriate food choices and prepare healthy meals. A quarterly schedule of these four-week classes, including dates, locations and contact information, is presented on the Web site. Healthcare providers and others who want to learn about the impact of diabetes in New Mexico will find the Facts section filled with reports, fact sheets, graphs and charts that detail demographics, prevalence and other useful information. The Publications section makes available information about different topics for managing diabetes. Information about the symptoms, causes, diagnosis and treatment of diabetes as well as links to current research and publications, also are available.
