Saturday, January 21, 2006 Magdalena principal announces retirementAs one administrator accepted a two-year contract to work at the Magdalena Municipal Schools, another turned in his letter of resignation. The school board extended a two-year contract to Superintendent Mike Chambers at its board meeting Tuesday evening, which Chambers gladly accepted. Chambers came in as superintendent this school year. Chambers came to the Magdalena schools from Zuni High School, where he was principal. He was also the superintendent of San Jon School, near Tucumcari, and has also worked in the Laguna Pueblo. "We're very satisfied with what is taking place and what is going on," board president Colleen Grayson said of the board's decision to re-sign Chambers. After accepting the contract, Chambers announced that Dwight Myers, who has been principal of the mid/high school for one year, had turned in his letter of resignation. Chambers said Myers was retiring and would be returning to Oklahoma to take care of other business. "Dwight has been a very big help to me here," Chambers said. "He's' a fine man." Chambers went on to say he was thankful to the time and effort Myers has contributed in the year he has been at the school. "We're sorry to see him go," he said. Myers said he has enjoyed working with the students and staff this year. "I've truly enjoyed this year and plan to continue to the end of the school year," he said. Myers came to Magdalena in 2005, after spending one year as superintendent of the Reserve schools. Before Reserve, Myers was principal of Zimmerly Elementary School in Socorro. Chambers said, after the meeting, that the schools would begin looking for Myers replacement toward the end of the school year. He added that they will look at people already with the school who are eligible for the job and will also look outside the school to fill the position.
