Police search area for missing woman

T.S. Last El Defensor Chieftain General Manager

Law en-forcement agencies are looking for a Santa Fe woman who was last seen at the Roadrunner Travel Center in Lemitar on Sunday, Sept. 28.

Santa Fe County Sheriff Greg Solano said in a phone interview Tuesday, Sept. 30, that Kimberlee Gon-zales, 36, left her mother's house in Santa Fe about 8:30 a.m. on Sunday. The woman's vehicle apparently broke down several hours later on Interstate 25 between Belen and Socorro, and she called for a tow truck.

Solano said when the tow truck arrived at the location, the driver found the car but didn't immediately spot the woman. He later located her wandering in the desert adjacent to the interstate.

"The tow truck driver took her to a Phillips 66 station and that's where she was last seen," Solano said, adding that Gonzales told the tow truck driver that she was headed to Las Cruces.

The Sheriff said the woman's family indicated that she is disabled and desperately in need of medication. Members of her family were in Socorro County on Tuesday to help search for her.

Socorro County Sheriff's Department and New Mexico State Police are assisting in the search.

Gonzales has brown, shoulder-length hair with blonde highlights, and she usually wears a white baseball cap.

Anyone who may have seen Gonzales or has information about her possible whereabouts should contact the Santa Fe County Sheriff's office at 505-428-3720.
