Trinity Site Open White Sands Missile Range. This is the second of two times during the year that the site is open to the public (the first is in April). This is where the first atomic bomb was exploded July 16, 1945. Jim (WSMR), 575-479-6124.

Recycle Newspapers & Aluminum Cans, 8:30-11:30 a.m. Lot south of Ace Hardware. Tourism Director Deborah Dean partners with the Socorro High School football team and Honor Society in this project. Oktoberfest 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Hammel Museum, 600 N. Sixth St. Annual celebration to commemorate the founding of Socorro's famed Illinois Brewery. Music, food, entertainment, bake sale, arts & crafts and more. The honorary brewmeister will be Robert Eveleth serving George Killian's Red. Admission to the museum, live entertainment, and activities is free. Meal tickets are $9 at the door. Adult beverages are sold separately. Blessing of the Animals Historic Plaza. In honor of St. Francis of Assisi, people bring pets of all kinds to be blessed by local priests and ministers. 575-835-2891.

Bureau of Land Management Public Meeting, 6:30 p.m. Pie Town Fire Department. Review and comment for a planned multi-phase thinning project on BLM administered lands adjacent to Pie Town and the Top-of-the-World subdivision in Catron County to reduce the risk of wildland fire spreading from public lands to the local communities. Anyone who is unable to attend the meeting should direct their questions or comments to the BLM's Socorro Field Office at 575-835-0412.
