Bureau of Land Management Public Meeting, 6:30 p.m. Pie Town Fire Department. Review and comment for a planned multi-phase thinning project on BLM administered lands adjacent to Pie Town and the Top-of-the-World subdivision in Catron County to reduce the risk of wildland fire spreading from public lands to the local communities. Anyone who is unable to attend the meeting should direct their questions or comments to the BLM's Socorro Field Office at 575-835-0412.

Owl Bar Run A 13-mile course from the Tech Gym to the Owl Bar in San Antonio, N.M. Water stations will be available along the way. Transportation back to Socorro is available ONCE only, at 6 p.m. Maps can be picked up at the Tech Gym.

NRAO Colloquium, 11 a.m. Science Operations Center. Jean Turner, of UCLA, speaks on "Extreme Star Formation in the Local Universe."

Artist Reception, 5:30 p.m. Macen Gallery. Artist Georgette Evans Grey, of Magdalena, will be on hand to discuss her works.

6th Annual Socorro Fest Held on and around the Historic Plaza, Socorro Fest celebrates the community. There is live music all day, dancing, food vendors, craft vendors, homegrown fruits and vegetables, native food dishes, games, Indian Market, Indian dances, and a wine and beer tasting tent. Sevilleta and La Joya National Wildlife Refuge Open House This event is held in northern Socorro County at the fifth largest National Wildlife Refuge in the Continental U.S. There will be tours and speakers. The area supports four major ecosystems and is managed for the natural processes of flood, fire and succession. Kim, 505-864-4021.

Airport Cleanup Day, 8 a.m. Socorro County Airport. Help is needed to prep the airport for Aviation Day, which is Oct. 18. All supplies will be provided, so come give us a hand! For more info, contact Laurie Haines, 575-8355-2460; or Deborah Dean, 575-835-8927.

Alamo Indian Day Excursion, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. A full day of fun including, a parade, American Indian dancing, jewelry, ruggs, arts & crafts, game and more. 5K Run, 9 a.m. Meet at the Snake, near EMRTC. Part of Socorro Striders and Riders Fall Running Series. Entry fee is $5 for series of four races. Runners who compete in at least two of the four races will be eligible to win the series championship ($25 prize) in their age division (10 year increments for male and female). The next races are Nov. 1 and Nov. 15.

Good Samaritan Society Progressive Dinner. 5:45 p.m. The evening begins at Ranchers Steakhouse, then on to Don Juan's Cocina, then El Camino Restaurant, next to K-Bob's and finally back to Rancher's Steakhouse for dessert and an auction. Transportation will be provided each step of the way starting at Ranchers Steakhouse. Tickets are $50 per person and are availableat the Good Samaritan Society, 1203 Highway 60 West; Comcast Cable, 223 Fisher Ave; and at the Socorro Chamber of Commerce, 101 Plaza.
