Recycle #1 plastic (no caps), computer and mixed paper, paperboard and cardboard, 8 a.m. to noon Historic Plaza. Sponsored by the City of Socorro and the Socorro Chamber of Commerce. For more info, call 575-835-0424. The recycling site will be available the third Saturday of every month.

Friends of the Socorro Public Library Fall Book & Bake Sale, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Finley Gym, across the street from the library. Donations will be accepted until Thursday, Oct. 16. Volunteers are needed to haul books, sell items and bake goodies. There will be a preview sale for active Friends on Friday, Oct. 17, 5-7 p.m. at Finley Gym. For more info, call 575-835-1114.

President's Dance, 8 p.m. New Mexico Tech, Macey Center. Semi-formal dance sponsored by Residential Life.

Mon/Oct. 20

Carino Toy and Resource Library, 3-5 p.m. New Mexico Tech's Children's Center. Socorro County residents can check out age and developmentally appropriate toys, books and more for free and keep them for a month.

Hydrology Seminar, 3:30 p.m. MSEC 101. Dennis McQuillan, of New Mexico Environment Department, speaks on "Air, Water, Food and Sex."

Math Seminar, 4 p.m. Weir 209. Nail Ibragimov speaks on "Applications of group invariance methods to non-linear problems."

Society of Women Engineers, 5 p.m. Weir 132. A presentation is scheduled on how SWE works from the local collegiate, Professional, Regional and National levels.
