5K Run, 9 a.m. Meet at the Snake, near EMRTC. Part of Socorro Striders and Riders Fall Running Series. Entry fee is $5 for series of four races. Runners who compete in at least two of the four races will be eligible to win the series championship ($25 prize) in their age division (10 year increments for male and female).

El Camino Real Lecture Series, 11 a.m. El Camino Real International Heritage Center. Archeologist and scholar Mike Marshall gives the last in his series of lectures on the trail. This time he will discuss the Jornada del Muerto section of the trail, one of the dangerous forced marches through areas without water or forage. "Celebración de Otoño," 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. El Camino Real International Heritage Center. Celebrate the Center's third anniversary with living history demonstrations of period-life on the El Camino Real, special performances and more. Carino Toy and Resource Library, 3-5 p.m. New Mexico Tech Children's Center. Any Socorro County family can check out age and developmentally appropriate toys, books, CDs and other materials for free and keep the items for one month.

Hydrology Seminar, 3:30 p.m. MSEC 101. Amanda White, of Los Alamos National Lab, speaks on "Vegetation Variability and its Hydro-Climatologic Dependence."

Biology Seminar, 4 p.m. MSEC 105. Debra Ponds speaks on "From Outer to Enter Space: Constructing a cell culture system for the robust production of the hepatitis C virus."

20th Annual Festival of the Cranes Bosque del Apache National Wildlife Refuge. The largest event in Socorro County held each year the week before Thanksgiving. The event has dozens of workshops, birding tours, plant tours, keynote speakers, cowboy breakfast, fine arts show, photography seminars and a holiday crafts show.
