Saturday, July 4, 2009 Que Posse 4-H members shine at district eventThe June meeting of the Que Posse 4-H Club was called to order at 6:40 p.m. by President Leslie Ramzel. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Richard Carver. Gigi Alvarez read the secretary's report and Teghann Gonzales gave the treasurer's report. The club discussed horse school and decided to meet in the Wal-Mart parking lot at 8 a.m. to leave for Albuquerque on June 8. Horses need shots and other vet work before going to the event. This year's district horse show was in Silver City on June 21. The club voted to help participants pay for part of the fees associated with horse school and the district contest. Several members have new horses and they shared some of their adventures. Other members spoke about their futurity horses they have been working hard. Garrett Jacobs went to Teen Getaway and had a lot of fun, made new friends and is looking forward to next year. The July meeting of the Que Posse 4-H club will be held at the County Youth Center, in front of the Senior Center. June was a busy 4-H month. Tag-in day for livestock entries was June 6 and county judging was also June 6 it was a fun learning experience. Horse school was June 8-12 at the New Mexico State Fairgrounds. It was a lot of fun as usual. The instructors and workshops were great; we met new people, learned new riding techniques and experienced new things. Members attending were Gigi and Paul Alvarez, Teghann Gonzales, Richard Carver, Anastasia Carver, Walter Carver, Michaelyne Wilkinson, Andrea Holler and Anne Marie Holcomb. Thanks to all chaperones, leaders and instructors. Without your support we would not be able to enjoy this experience. District 4-H judging was held in Reserve on June 21. Michaelyne Wilkinson attended and took high-point individual in entomology; the team placed third. Wilkinson was also a member of the horticulture and wildlife teams that took second place. The District 4-H Horse Show was held in Silver City on June 23. Que Posse's Teghann Gonzales and Sunshine brought home six first-place ribbons and the Novice All-Around award. Gonzales took first in Showmanship, Western Horsemanship, Trail, Hunter Under Saddle, Hunter Seat Equitation and Poles. Gonzales took second in Western Pleasure and Barrels while teammate Michaelyne Wilkinson brought home three second-place awards for Hunter Under Saddle, Hunter Seat Equitation and Poles. Wilkinson also claimed five third-place ribbons for Showmanship, Western Pleasure, Western Horsemanship, Trail and Barrels. Catherine Blythe and her horse, Scout, won the Reserve Senior All Around Award after taking first in Reining, Hunter Hack and Poles. She also took second in Western Horsemanship and Hunter Seat Equitation, third in Western Pleasure and Hunter Under Saddle, fourth in Trail and Barrels and sixth in Showmanship. Jean Paul Alvarez placed fourth in Barrels and fifth in Poles; Leslie Ramzel finished second in Reining and Hunter Under Saddle, third in Trail and Hunter Seat Equitation, fourth in Showmanship and Western Horsemanship, fifth in Western Pleasure, Barrels and Poles. Gigi Alvarez took third in Showmanship and Barrels, fourth in Western Pleasure and Reining, fifth in Trail and sixth in Western Horsemanship; Andrea Holler and her horse, Bulls Eye, took first in Futurity, second in Barrels, third in Western Horsemanship, fourth in Poles, fifth in Showmanship and Reining and sixth in Trail; Anne Marie Holcomb won first in Barrels and took third in Poles. The top six placers in each event qualified for the New Mexico State Fair in September. All members of the Que Posse 4-H Club wish Samantha Schnell a speedy and healthy recovery.
