YOUR PRIVACY ON OUR WEBSITE
Maintaining your privacy is very important to us.
When you browse our website, you do so anonymously.
We gather identifying information about you only when you provide that information on a voluntary basis – for instance, in registering to use our User-Posted Content areas or in using our feedback or suggestion forms, et cetera.
Use of Information:
Any information you provide to us is used exclusively to help us make your experience of this website better. We do not make any specific, identifying information about you available to any third parties.
We perform statistical analyses of our server logs to study the use and popularity of various areas of our site. We also look at IP addresses to analyze where our visitors come from geographically.
We may inform advertisers of the results of such analyses. Under any circumstance, we will refer only to general, aggregate usage data from these analyses – never specific identifying information.
We reserve the right to make use of or refer to any User-Posted Content you publish for the purposes of promotion of this website. This may involve taking screen shots of a particular area of the site and using that screen shot as a graphic in an advertisement. We make no claim of ownership to any User-Posted Content.
Users should keep in mind that, when posting their user name or e-mail address on bulletin boards or in other User-Posted Content areas, that information, along with any information in their postings, can be read by any third parties and may result in unsolicited messages from other posters or third parties. We have no control over that.
Use of ‘cookies’:
We currently use ‘cookies’ – small files sent by servers which interact with your browser on your computer – only to prevent multiple votes in our QuikPolls. Our advertising management software, RealMedia’s Open Ad Stream, also may set a ‘cookie’ on your system. We do not gather any specific, identifying information about you from these ‘cookies.’
Children and the internet:
While we strongly believe that reading newspapers and using the internet can be immeasurably valuable learning experiences for children, we do not believe children should browse the internet without the supervision of a parent or responsible gaurdian. We believe that parents are responsible for the browsing experiences of their children, and you agree to be solely responsible for your children’s browsing our site.
Certain areas of our site – primarily User-Posted Content areas, and specifically those User-Posted Content areas having to do with short fiction and poetry – may contain language or subject matters unsuitable for children. Such is the nature of some fiction and poetry.
