Saturday, May 12, 2007 Area riders place in AlamogordoNew Mexico high school rodeo season is winding down Area youth participated in the Alamogordo High School Rodeo sponsored by the New Mexico High School Rodeo Association last weekend. Quirt McDaniel, of Claunch, had a high score for the weekend of 73 Sunday for a first-place finish in the bareback bronc-riding event, and finished second on Saturday with a score of 65. Rankin Lindsey, of Hillsboro, won the average high for the event with his scores of 69 and 70. In the timed events, Johnny Salvo of Horse Springs finished fifth in calf roping with a time of 12.78 seconds on Sunday. Salvo is currently ranked fourth overall in calf roping in NMHSRA standings, first in team roping and sixth in all-around points. Rodee Walraven, of Datil, and partner Beau Marshall, of Sierra County, finished fifth in team roping Sunday with a time of 12.73 seconds and eighth in calf roping with a time of 14.55 seconds. Walraven is currently ranked 10th in all-around points and second in team roping. Magdalena native Ryan Sanders finished sixth in calf roping Saturday with a time of 14 seconds and ninth Sunday with 15.46 seconds. Sanders finished sixth in team roping Sunday with partner Travis Gran, of Moriarty, with a time of 13.75 seconds. Earning top honors in the rodeo was Lindsey as All-Around Cowboy and Jordan Muncy, of Torrance County, as All-Around Cowgirl. The NMHSRA is hosting its last rodeo before the state finals today (Saturday) and Sunday in Mescalero. The state finals will be held in Carlsbad on June 7-10.
