Warriors wrestling heading to state

The wrestling team certainly had reason to celebrate after the final regular season tournament in Cobre as the entire team qualified for the state championships this weekend.

SHS wrestling competed in the “State Qualifying Tournament" in Bayard, at Cobre High School. The Warriors will send 14 wrestlers at 14 Different weight classes and all wrestlers qualified at their respective weight class for the 2019 NMAA High School State Championships this Friday/Saturday Feb. 22-23. This required each wrestler to place 1st-3rd in their weight class.

Socorro also qualified two female wrestlers for the girls state championship exhibition tournament totaling 16 athletes all together.

Because Socorro qualified 16 wrestlers the NMAA has four manager spots available for SHS wrestling.

The state championship tournament will begin at 9 a.m., Friday February 22 at the Santa Ana Star Center.
