FIRE LAST FRIDAY night at Monette Ford caused heavy smoke and light water damage, according to Socorro Fire Chief Phil Baca. Baca said the blaze started from an electrical short in the ceiling above the parts department. The local fire department answered the call with three trucks and 14 crew members. Assistance also arrived from San Antonio, who sent one truck and four fire fighters. Baca said that owner Chuck Monette was still in the building when the fire started. Monette was alerted to the situation when the lights began to flicker. Baca said that damage to the building was assessed at $30,000. Fortunately, the fire didn’t get a chance to spread too far. Monette said the quick response saved their business. From the time he called the fire department to the time they had the fire under control was less than 15 minutes.
