City’s committee assignments updated

While it was rather a short and to-the-point Socorro city council meeting last week, as it updated its active committee member list for the coming year.

The city has 21 different committees where various representatives of the community and city council members participate to help the city make various decisions through the year.

Below is a listing of committees and individuals who serve on them:

Airport Committee: Jerry Griego, Dennis Hunter and Isacc Angel

Municipal League: Michael Olguin Jr.

WIA-CEO Board: Ravi Bhasker

South Central Council of Governments: Deborah Dean

Budget Committee: Nick Fleming (Chair), Anton Salome and Deborah Dean

Utility Committee: Peter Romero (Co-chair), Anton Salome (Co-Chair) and Mary Ann Chavez-Lopez

Senior Centers: Mayor Ravi Bhasker, Socorro City Council and Nick Kellar

Economic Development/Job Creation/Industrial Park Committee: Michael Olguin Jr. (Chair), Peter Romero and Deborah Dean

Recreation Committee: Mary Ann Chavez-Lopez (Chair) and Damien Ocampo

Lodger’s Tax Committee: Eileen Comstock and Melissa Hurtgen

Beautification Committee: Board of Directors – Chelsea Jones, Jon Morrison, Karyn DeBont and Linda Wilson. Committee members also include Beth Wells, Judy Lovelace, Deb Card, Barbara Popp and Pirjo Berg.

Animal Shelter: Mary Ann Chavez-Lopez, Michael Olguin Jr., Guadalupe (Lupe) Tarango and a county commissioner yet to be named

Revitalize Socorro/Code Enforcement: Anton Salome, Joe Patridge, Michael Olguin Jr. and Chris Carrillo

In other business, the council:

• Named December 17, 2024, as Dominica “Nica” Chavez Day in the City of Socorro to honor the centenarian as she celebrates her 100th birthday.

• Approved a Restaurant A (Beer and Wine) liquor license for Desert Diamond restaurant, 602 State highway 85, in Socorro.

• Acknowledged a new business registration for Alberto Amaya Remodel LLC, for Jessica Quinones for a handyman service located at 1508 Fatima Road.

• Set the final council meeting of 2024 for 6 p.m., on Tuesday, December 17.
