Cougars and Lady Cougars: undefeated in district games

Alamo Homecoming Queen and King: Shalayshah Guerro and Cobre Mexicano.

Both Alamo varsity basketball teams went undefeated in their district to wrap up their regular season.

The Cougars finished the regular season at 19-5 overall and an undefeated 8-0 for first place in Class A District 3. The Lady Cougars finished 13-10 overall and were also undefeated for first place in Class A District 3 at 6-0. 

Thursday, Feb. 12, was also their Senior Night and winter season Homecoming for Alamo. They hosted Mesilla Valley Christian School (MVCS) that night. The Lady Cougars won 49-23, but the Cougars lost 76-55 to the higher-ranked MVCS team.

Seniors honored for the Lady Cougars on Feb. 12 were #5 Tisha Mexicano and #23 Shalayshah Guerro. The Cougars team has three seniors: #23 Scotty Guerro, #32 Andy Pino and #33 Zephaniah Guerro. Senior team manager Carlos Ganadonegro was recognized as well.

On the 12th as well, Cobre Mexicano and Shalayshah Guerro were crowned Alamo Homecoming Queen and King. Pherrell Herrera and Ania Torres were crowned Alamo Homecoming Prince and Princess.

In another very impressive Alamo basketball season, the Alamo Lady Cougars junior high team finished at 18-1 overall.

Alamo basketball recent and upcoming games:

2/10 JV/V boys and girls at home vs. Mountainair, district. Girls won 61-34. Boys won 58-51.

2/12 V girls and boys at home vs. Mesilla Valley Christian School (MVCS). 

2/13 V boys and girls at Hondo, district. Girls won 49-30. Boys won 77-42.

2/17 JH boys and girls at home vs. Corona--cancelled.

2/19 V girls at MVCS, 5:30 p.m.

2/20 JV boys and girls at the Magdalena JV Tourney.

Alamo Homecoming Prince and Princess: Pherrell Herrera and Ania Torres.

2/25-3/02 District Tournament week, games TBA.

3/8-9 First Round of State, games TBD.

3/13-16 State Tournament, games TBD.
