Betty L. Campbell 1935-2025
Betty Louise (Kime) Campbell passed away on February 6, 2025.
Betty was born on January 6, 1935 to L.E. (Tom) Kime, and Doris Marie Kime (Herrick), in Greeley, Colorado.
Betty was raised in the Briggsdale, CO area, spending many summers in Glen Haven, Colorado, she helped guide trail rides for the families saddle livery when she was 4 yrs old! She graduated from Briggsdale High School in 1952. Following high school, she had planned to attend college to become a nurse but switched to education after a long bout in the hospital with polio. Betty attended University of Northern Colorado, in Greeley, where she earned both her undergraduate degree, and after teaching several years in LaSalle, Colorado, she returned to college to earn her Masters. Later she would be awarded her Doctor of Philosophy from Texas Tech University (1984). Her professional career then focused on career and technical education, and she would serve as the Dean of Career and Technical Education at Eastern New Mexico University, in Portales, NM. She would go on to serve as the Assistant Superintendent of Career and Technical Education at NM Department of Education where she retired in 1992 and moved to Magdalena, NM. While in Magdalena, she was an active member of the art community through her rug weaving. She was a master weaver, and her work was exhibited at the New Mexico Museum of Art. Along with her daughter and family she operated the Mill Canyon Wool Processing Mill and raised fiber sheep at their ranch south of Magdalena. For about 10 years, she split her time between Magdalena and Buckeye, AZ, where she and her horses spent the winter with her many friends who flocked to the warmer conditions and good horse facilities. In 2013, after having some ongoing heart issues, she moved to Snowflake, AZ – needing the lower elevation. She lived east of Snowflake with Gail and Steve, continuing to ride her faithful Boone often. In November of 2022, she moved to Bee Hive Assisted Living in Snowflake, where she was at the time of her passing. Throughout her life Betty always had horses, good ones! While in Colorado, she raised and showed Paint Horses, both halter and performance. Later she ran barrels and was still doing so well into her 80’s.
Betty is survived by her son John (Valerie) of Swink, Colorado, and daughter Gail (Steve) of Snowflake. Grandchildren Marissa (Jerod) Struthers, Collin Campbell, and Shelby (Lee) Saulsberry. She had 4 great-grandchildren, Shania and Austin Struthers, Trevor and Payten Saulsberry.
