Dear Sammy
Dear Sammy,
I am wondering if it is worth it to stay married. I look at couples who have been married 30+ years, and most of them are miserable. I am in a dark season with my wife; we have been fighting a lot, and I am just wondering if it is worth saving. What are the benefits of staying even if you both aren’t very happy? We have been married for five years, and I have heard all about the “five-year itch.” Is it worth pressing through? It feels like I have been trying, while she doesn’t care anymore and is moving on with her life, but then sometimes she says she wants to fix things too. Will I be okay if we divorce? It feels like a death.
Unhappy and Married
Dear Unhappy and Married,
Remember, you both love each other and made the commitment of going through life together, regardless of what it brings. There’s no such thing as an easy marriage! It takes hard work and effort from both parties to make it work. If you both do truly want to make it work, try having a serious talk about your goals and expectations from the relationship. It won’t be a fresh start, but you can reset to meet each other’s needs. Marriage counseling may help with this.
Dear Sammy,
Too often we see local law enforcement breaking the very laws they are expected to enforce. We’re referring to uniformed officers driving official vehicles yet failing to signal, rolling through stop signs, speeding, etc. We all recognize that a police car running code 3 (activating lights and sirens) is on the job, but when one does not utilize such safety measures, is it okay to ignore basic traffic laws? We recently stopped at the intersection of HWY 60 and California St. A marked police cruiser sped through the red light and turned left in front of four waiting vehicles. I was advised not to report the incident because “then they might just bully you”. What can be done?
Sincerely,
Rule of Law
Dear Rule of Law,
The law applies to everybody! Some vehicles run silent codes when necessary, and it is always a matter of circumstance; if nothing comes out of the report, it was brought to attention at the very least. Familiarize yourself with available policies for a better understanding in the future. Their job is public safety; if their actions do not represent that, something should be said! Law enforcement sets an example, and what’s right is right. We appreciate all of the hard work they do for our community, and hope that they can represent Socorro in the best way possible.
