Lady Warrior and City of Socorro youth volleyball camp
The Lady Warrior and City of Socorro youth volleyball camp will be coming to Finley Gym soon, running from March 10 to April 18. SHS Head Coach Carmen Marquez and Lady Warrior volleyball players are ready to share their love and knowledge of the sport with Socorro’s younger players.
“I’m really excited about the response to our youth volleyball camp, we currently have 54 girls signed up, which speaks volumes about the interest in growing volleyball in our community,” Marquez said. “A large portion of registrations are in the 11–12 age group, and it’s exciting to see so many athletes wanting to learn the game.”
To best support development, Marquez said that they have split the camp into two groups:
Ages 8–10 will meet Tuesdays from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m.
Ages 11–12 will meet Thursdays from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m.
“I’ve received several questions about skill level and whether athletes may be considered advanced. At this stage, all age groups will learn the same fundamental skills. Tournament placement and competitive levels will be determined later,” Marquez said.
Week one will focus on volleyball foundations: posture, platform, positioning and pursuit. The young athletes will begin learning setting, passing and hitting skills.
Week two topics are skill basics and court awareness. Week three will move into skill development and game application. Week four starts game play and tournament preparation. The final two weeks will be games leading up to a round robin tournament for the young athletes on April 18.
“Right now, the goal is simple: get these girls learning and playing together. We are building relationships, confidence, and a foundation for the future of Lady Warrior Volleyball,” Marquez said. “We want these athletes to one day look back and say, ‘We’ve played together for 15 years.’”
Sarah Walsh, Mia Moore, Natrice Paz and Siara Carrillo are a few of the Lady Warriors who will be assisting Marquez in this volleyball camp. Sophia Rosa and Dennis Walsh, assistant coaches from the fall 2025 season at SHS, will also join Marquez and the Lady Warriors to deliver the fundamentals to these young players.
