Multiple organizations are combining forces Saturday, April 19, at the City of Socorro Rodeo and Sports Complex to make this Easter weekend the most exciting yet.

This year’s festivities will kick off at 8 a.m. with the New Mexico High School and Junior High Rodeo, followed at 9 a.m. with the Socorro Striders and Riders Easter Egg 5K.

At 10 a.m. the city’s all ages egg hunt will commence in conjunction with the 25th annual Family Fun Fest, hosted by CYFD and Positive Outcomes, that will offer everything from cotton candy and face painting to planting flowers with little ones to take home and grow.

“The Family Fun Fest brings attention to Child Abuse Awareness Month, and is for families to go out and enjoy themselves,” Odelia Baca, director of Alberta Academy, said.

CYFD and Positive Outcomes combine forces to bring out a variety of healthcare and service providers to meet the public, hand out free goodies and talk about the different programs they offer.

“I took my own children to this event, and I was honored when I was able to take the reins,” Adonica Benavidez, administrator of Socorro and Sierra County CYFD offices, said. “The reason I love hosting this event is bringing the community together, and I love seeing children engaging with other generations.”

Family Fun Fest is a chance to learn about all the resources available in the county and will include prizes, and giveaways like baby cribs full of diapers during the Positive Outcomes baby shower.

There will also be food trucks on site, and members of the police and fire department to engage with children and help them learn about public safety.

“It’s a jack-of-all-trades event,” Benavidez said.
