Magdalena class reunion coming up
A multi-generational Magdalena class reunion is scheduled for July 19 and 20.
“We had good response last year and hopefully even more will come this year. It is open to anyone who went to Magdalena High School,” Jeanie Dixon, organizer, said, “Hopefully we will get an even larger crowd this year and it will continue to be an annual event.”
She partnered with Yvonne Magener , director of the Magdalena Public Library to put on the free event.
“She (Magener) reached out to me last year asking about joining up, she wanted to do an acknowledgement of the Old Timer Queens so we agreed to work together. Many were very supportive and donated to the cause.” Dixon said.
Dixon said the idea came about before COVID which put a halt to reunion for those who graduated in the 1960s. When they were able to start making plans again someone suggested to make it a multi-generation class reunion so that everyone could attend and have an opportunity to reconnect.
“Last year I saw people I hadn’t seen since I graduated way back in the day. We all have strong ties and connection to Magdalena, and even though many don’t live there anymore, Magdalena High is our alma mater that we love,” Dixon said, “Many of us call Magdalena our home town and that will never change,” Dixon said.
The event kicks off Friday afternoon with a meet and greet at the Magdalena Public Library and moves to a social gathering at the Golden Spur. Saturday will include screenings of two local films a pot luck and opportunities for old classmates to catch up.
“It’s nice to reconnect and go down memory lane with everyone,” Dixon said.
