Socorro Directory now in print
The 100% Socorro family service directory is now available in print. This free resource guide provides information about various services available in Socorro County, aiming to help families easily access the support they need.
The directory includes information on medical and dental services, behavioral health, food security, housing, transportation, parent support, early childhood learning, schools, youth mentors, job training, and other services in Socorro County.
Lillian Armijo, 100% Socorro Coordinator, said the booklets are intended to provide accessible information to those who may have barriers to accessing the resources online.
“Many don’t have computers or can’t access some of the information. So if they have a paper version, then they can take it with them, they can circle where they need to go and they can get the phone numbers because everything’s on here,” Armijo said
She said the plan is to print and distribute the booklet bi-annually. Currently, they have 300 copies to hand out and are distributing them to the libraries, senior centers, and other public spaces not only in Socorro but also in Veguita, Magdalena and Alamo.
“I think people are really happy to get it. Those that I’ve shown it to they’re like, ‘Oh, my parents could do this. My mom needed this information last week.’ It’s a great resource. It’s a great community resource, and we’re just happy to be able to do that with the 100% Socorro.” Armijo said.
Each resource in the directory to local services is verified, periodically checked, and updated by the 100% Socorro initiative team.
According to the 100% Socorro website, the goal of the 100% Socorro initiative is remove the barriers preventing families, students and children from accessing ten vital services for surviving and thriving for 100% of the community. The 100% Socorro leadership team includes Sharon Sessions, Mary Ann Chavez-Lopez, Jackie Munchy, Samantha Winter and Maureen Wilks.
