POP CULTURE icon Andy Warhol maintained that people enjoy 15 minutes of fame in their lifetime. Socorro resident Paul Cases will get a whole day. At this week’s city council meeting, Mayor Ravi Bhasker designated Jan. 27, 2001, as Paul Cases Day. “Paul is admired by family, friends and co-workers as a man of dedication, integrity and epitome of the working-class family man of yesterday, today and tomorrow,” reads the proclamation. With his official retirement from the Socorro Electric Cooperative a few weeks ago on Jan. 4, Paul has had little time to settle into his new life. But Paul’s family already seem to know how to fill his time. Paul says he has a courtyard to complete, a granddaughter he delivers snacks to at kindergarten and a 96-year-old mother-in=law to take to and from the beauty shop. He also has more time for hobbies, including golf. Whereas Paul had to take his lunch break to get some practice swings in, now he hopes to devote two to three days a week to playing the game.
