SOCORRO SCHOOL Superintendent J. Placido Garcia confirmed Tuesday an Albuquerque paper’s news release that local schools have been approved for $75,000 of emergency capital outlay money from the state. Socorro’s application is for a total of $425,000. The Public-School Emergency Capital Outlay Advisory Council, the body charged with distribution of $1.8 million to eligible districts this year, will consider the $350,000 balance requested by Socorro later. Garcia explained that $15,000 of the state funds approved this week will go for a paint and spray room at Socorro High to become part of the industrial arts facilities. The $60,000 balance will go for heating and ventilation improvements in the high school plant proper. Completion of Zimmerly school, including the addition of six more classrooms, a multi-purpose room and restrooms will be financed with the $350,000 that Socorro hopes will get approval later.
