NOVEMBER 25, 1975

A 1957 CHEVY received considerable damage to its right-hand side in a one-car accident. The driver was traveling south on the Frontage Road, when he failed to negotiate a stop, as a result of brake failure. The man hit a telephone box and pole, with damages resulting in the car having to be towed away. No citation was issued. The investigating officer was city policeman Frank Padilla.

DECEMBER 2, 1975

AIRMAN ROBERT D. BLANTON, son of Mr. and Mrs. William H. Blanton of Socorro, has been assigned to Holloman AFB, N.M., for duty in the civil engineering structural and pavements field after completing Air Force basic training. During his six weeks at Lackland AFB, Tx., he studied the Air Force mission, organization and customs and received special instruction in human relations. Airman Blanton, a 1974 graduate of Socorro High School, attended Eastern New Mexico University.

DECEMBER 9, 1975

AMOUNTING TO SEVERAL hundred dollars were several recent incidents of vandalism involving rocks being thrown through windows. On Dec. 1st a window was broken at the Mountain Bell telephone office. On Dec. 3rd damage to a window at B&J Silversmith was estimated at $150. On the same evening a window was broken at Pino Plumbing Co. On Dec. 4th at the S&M north end car lot windshields of two cars were broken and one cab dented, with estimated damage for all three set at $500.

NOVEMBER 14, 2001

TWO SOCORRO HIGH School girls will be among the thousands of participants in this year’s 75th annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City. Brianna Kimble and Amy Valles will be dancing as part of a group with Mike Miller and Associates of NYC. They were invited to be part of the parade through their dance teacher, Ellen Hefner of Ellen’s Dance School. Hefner and her students will be leaving on Nov. 17 for NYC, along with the girls’ mothers, Valerie Kimble and Arleen Valles. They are also the daughters of John Kimble and Randy Valles. Kimble is also co-captain of the SHS Charisma Blues dance team, and Valles was Homecoming class princess this year who also studies gymnastics. The dancers will join several hundred other young girls from across the country for five days of workshops and practice in preparation for the main event on Thanksgiving morning.

FEBRUARY 11, 2016

FOUR PEOPLE WERE killed in a car crash in Socorro County. Three others were injured, two critical, in the accident that occurred on the west Frontage road of Interstate 25 approximately two miles north of Lemitar. According to New Mexico State Police, the initial investigation indicated a 2001 Chevrolet Tahoe was traveling southbound at a high rate of speed on the west frontage road of Interstate 25. The vehicle failed to navigate a hill crest, lost control, and rolled multiple times. The vehicle was occupied by seven passengers. Six passengers were not wearing seatbelts and were ejected. Four passengers were killed because of the crash.
