The Warriors won their first district game of the season 48-39 against the Hatch Valley Bears on Feb. 3.

“It just feels good, and we’re back in the win column,” Warrior Vyncynt Gonzales, who hit a 3-pointer in the second quarter, said after the Hatch game.

The Warriors broke a January losing streak to get the month of February off to a better start.  They beat the Bears more decisively than the nine point margin might indicate. Socorro eased up in the second half, rested their starters and gave bench players a lot of playing time.

“I feel really good, and I'm happy for Carlos because he got his first varsity points,” #1 Brendan Reichenbach said of teammate Carlos Jacquez.

Jacquez, a sophomore, was two out of two at the free throw line for the night for two points against Hatch. Reichenbach added five points. #3 Jaquavis Brawley led the team with 15 points and #10 Isaiah Silva scored 11 points, including three 3-pointers.

“Had a lot of fun, for sure. I liked it. I loved it, actually. And a win's a win,” Jacquez said.

The Warriors are 5-15 on the season after a loss to the highly ranked Cobre team, and they are currently third in their district at 1-2. They had three players out for the Hatch game, but are hoping to get everyone healthy for a full team as they head into round two of district play.

“Yeah, we'll have more energy coming off the bench, and we'll have more energy to start the game,” Reichenbach said of having those teammates back on the court for upcoming games. “I feel confident. Like I said, I think we could go out there and win.”
