SHS dance and cheer teams at Spirit of Hope Challenge

Both the SHS Cheer team and the Charisma Blues Dance team competed in the Spirit of Hope Challenge at Tingley Coliseum at the NM State Fairgrounds in Albuquerque on Saturday, Feb. 7. This huge event ran from 8 a.m. until after 8 p.m. in two sessions. There were 199 performances listed for solo and team dancers and cheerleaders of all ages.
Charisma Blues Dance team
The Charisma Blues dancers performed in session one. The team competed in the 1A-4A Pom division late in the morning and placed third out of seven teams.
“I was really proud of how they performed today! They felt good about their performances and are motivated heading into the next competition,” Head Coach Stefanie Bunning said.
Socorro dancers had three solo performances in the early afternoon, and Nayeli Pavia placed third in the junior open solo.

2/17 Boys basketball game halftime performance; game starts at 7 p.m.
2/28 NM Cheer and Dance Competition in Bernalillo.
SHS Cheer team
Socorro’s cheer team has already been cheering at SHS games throughout the school year, starting with the football season in the fall and now cheering at many of the home basketball games. They just kicked off their competition season this past weekend though.

The SHS cheerleaders performed in the Game Day AG (all girls) category later in the afternoon, in the second session of the event.
“It went well for being our first competition,” Head Coach Breann Wheeler said.
Cheer team upcoming events:
The SHS Cheer team will cheer at most home basketball games, eighth grade and up.
