THE HORSE AND THE SPACE AGE had their day Saturday in the downtown parade of the 15th annual Socorro County Fair. An estimated 5000 persons lined the streets to watch the parade go by to the music of the 62nd Army Band of Ft. Bliss, and the Socorro High School Band, whose members wore their new blue and white uniforms. The space age theme came into the parade for the first time this year, because of the reported sighting of an Unidentified Flying Object that landed and took off here last April 24. The parade is almost a climax to the fair and is the event that draws the largest crowd at one time. First place in the commercial was Radio Station KSRC, showing a newsroom with an outer space representation. Beta Sigma Phi, proclaiming Socorro as “New Mexico’s only space port,” and bearing a representation of a flying saucer won first for Senior Clubs. The Rainbow Girls, won first place for Junior Clubs, with words on the float calling them, “Space Maids from the Rainbow.”
