Socorro School District announced a change in leadership for two elementary schools. Julie Romero, after seven years at Midway Elementary, will transition to Parkview Elementary and JohnRay Dennis will assume the role of principal at Midway Elementary.

In a letter to parents, Romero said she felt privileged to work at Midway and is honored to have been invited to join the Parkview school family.

“Education is my passion-it’s what drives me every day,” Romero wrote. “The best schools are built on strong relationships, and I’m eager to connect with all of you - students, families, and staff- as we continue to make Parkview Elementary a place where every child can thrive.”

Joyce Gormley, Superintendent of Socorro School District, sent out a letter announcing Dennis as the new principal of Midway this week.

“Mr. Dennis’s deep roots in our community and his extensive experience across various roles and grade levels make him exceptionally qualified to lead Midway Elementary.” Gormley wrote,” He is not only knowledgeable about the effective systems, culture, and successful practices already implemented at Midway, but he is also deeply committed to continuing and building upon this strong foundation established by Principal Julie Romero.”

Gormley said she was confident Dennis would bring personality, passion and a wonderful sense of humor to the leadership at Midway.

“I know that I have some very big shoes to fill. I am very excited about my new role, and I’m ready to roll up my sleeves and work hard at being the best principal I can be.” Dennis said. “I believe that Midway Elementary is one big family. I am committed to keeping that feeling. I want every child or adult who enters our doors to feel welcomed and feel that they are a part of something special.”

Dennis is a graduate of Socorro High School and holds a Bachelor’s degree in Education from New Mexico State University, as well as a Master’s degree in Reading Instruction. He has worked at Socorro Consolidated schools for 32 years. Since 2022, he has served as the fourth-grade teacher at Midway Elementary School.
