Low voter turnout at primary election

Only 22% of Socorro County’s eligible voters went to the ballot box on Tuesday with 2,006 ballots cast. The local voting rate matched the statewide with 230,436 voters out of the 1,011,360 eligible or 22% voting in New Mexico.

In local elections, Republican Daniel Monette will face Democrat Darryl Cases after edging out Jerry Esquivel and Craig Canner for county commission district 4. Results of the primary election for Socorro County will not be official until they have been canvassed.
