Dear Sammy

Dear Sammy,

I love living out here in Lemitar, but the wind has been so relentless this spring that I feel like I’m sweeping dust out of my kitchen every hour. My husband says it’s “just New Mexico,” but I’m starting to feel defeated. Is it unreasonable to want a clean house for more than five minutes?— Dusty and Discouraged in Lemitar

Dear Dusty,

Unfortunately, your husband isn't wrong about this being an ongoing New Mexico qualm. Check your windows and doors to ensure they are sealed correctly. You can use caulking to go around your windows, or invest in some of those plastic insulation covers. You can also redo the seals for your doors and find slide covers for the bottom. For now it may help to put a wet rag on your window sills when it gets windy, to help trap the dust as it comes in.

Dear Sammy,

I frequent a local coffee shop in Socorro and recently overheard two regulars arguing loudly about city council decisions. I didn’t want to eavesdrop, but it was impossible not to. Now I feel awkward going back because they both know I heard everything. Should I avoid the place for a while or just walk in like nothing happened?— Conflicted at the Coffee Shop

Dear Conflicted,

Since the conversation didn't directly effect you, it shouldn't stop you from returning to the coffee shop. Its unfortunate that others lacked the social awareness to refrain from loudly arguing in a public space. The best thing you can do is brush it off. If you happen to see those people there again, as awkward as that event was, try not to act any different than you normally would. They probably wont remember you overheard anyway.

Whether you’re facing a personal crossroads, seeking relationship advice, or just curious about what Socorro’s seasoned voices have to say, the residents at Socorro Wellness and Rehabilitation (formerly named The Good Samaritan) are ready to listen.
