Magdalena superintendent submits resignation effective June 30
Magdalena Municipal Schools Superintendent Kimberly Ortiz has submitted her resignation, notifying the school board in a letter dated March 9 that she will step down at the end of the academic year.
Ortiz was previously appointed interim Superintendent to serve until June 30, 2026, following the resignation of former superintendent Dr. George Bickert, which was accepted on October 9 of 2025.
When reached for comment, Ortiz said, “I am very happy to have been given the opportunity to work as superintendent of this amazing district. The community, staff and students are one-of-a-kind.”
Ortiz said in her resignation letter the decision came “after much thought,” writing that she believes resigning effective June 30 is “best for all involved.”
In the letter addressed to Board President Montoya and board members, Ortiz thanked the district for the opportunity to serve and praised the staff and students.
“Thank you so much for the opportunity to work in this amazing district, with the stellar staff and students we have here,” she wrote.
Ortiz also expressed hope that the board will find a leader who aligns with its goals moving forward.
The board has not yet announced its next steps in the search for a new superintendent.
The next school board meeting will be held at 6 p.m. on March 16.
