Twenty-eight percent of county’s electorate have voted early
Socorro County Clerk Betty Saavedra said Tuesday morning early in-person voting has been extremely popular with 28 percent of Socorro County’s registered voters.
Of the 11,015 registered voters in Socorro County, 2,508 individuals have cast an early ballot. In addition, some 634 absentee ballots have been returned.
Election Day, Nov. 5, will be the last day absentee ballots will be accepted.
Saturday, November 2, is the last day to vote early in the state of New Mexico.
Voters can either vote at the Socorro County Courthouse in the County Clerk’s office or the Magdalena Senior Citizen Center from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday.
Eligible voters also can continue to vote at those sites on Thursday, October 31 and Friday, November 1, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
In order to register and vote in New Mexico, an applicant must be:
• A resident of New Mexico
• A citizen of the United States
• An individual who has not been denied the right to vote by a court of law due to reason of mental incapacity
• 18 years or older at the time of the election
• Those who are currently incarcerated for a felony offense cannot vote while incarcerated
