Youth Spotlight: Bianca Garcia brings heart and hustle to the court and beyond
Bianca Garcia, affectionately called “Bunny” by her father Tommy Garcia, is already making a name for herself in the world of youth sports. A seventh grader at Sarracino Middle School and a proud member of the Lady Braves, Bianca has shown a passion for athletics that runs deep in her family.
Inspired by her older sisters, Bianca first got involved in sports at a young age.
“Because of my older sisters, I started following how they did sports,” she said.
That early influence has blossomed into a love for competition and teamwork that now fuels her drive on the volleyball court and basketball court alike.
This past volleyball season, Bianca played as a front row hitter, helping lead her team to victory in many of their games. The season took her to places as far as Ruidoso and near Pie Town, giving her a taste of travel and competition. Her dedication and hustle didn’t go unnoticed, she was even named MVP of a game.
“It has been so fun to watch her play sports for years,” said her mother, Geraldine Jones. “She went from not knowing a thing about volleyball to diving for the ball, being named MVP of a game. It has been so much fun watching her progress in sports. She will be trying out for 7th grade basketball this season.”
Basketball season is about to kick off for the Lady Braves, and Bianca is already hitting the court with energy and determination. Last year, she also played county baseball, marking her final season in that sport.
But Bianca’s talents don’t stop at athletics. In her free time, she enjoys sketching, painting, and crafting small creations out of beads. Her favorite subject in school is history, especially New Mexico history.
“I like history because it’s cool to know what happened when your ancestors were around,” she said.
Bianca dreams of continuing her sports journey into college, with her sights set on a school in Las Vegas, New Mexico, where she’s already attended games to cheer on her cousin. With a family full of athletes, her mom, dad, and aunt all played sports through middle and high school. It’s no surprise that Bianca is following in their footsteps.
As the youngest of four siblings, Bianca is carving out her own path, one game at a time. With her strong work ethic, love for sports, and creative spirit, there’s no doubt she’s a rising star to watch.
