Fatality on 1-25, State Police requesting information

The New Mexico State Police is requesting assistance from the public to help identify a white sedan that fled the scene after fatally striking a woman on Interstate 25 at 5:30 a.m. today near Socorro at mile marker 161.

According to the State Police press release, the initial investigation indicated that a Chevrolet pickup truck was traveling southbound on Interstate 25 near mile marker 161. A deer crossed the road in front of the Chevy truck. The driver attempted to avoid hitting the deer but lost control of the truck, causing it to roll into the median. Both the driver and passenger were able to exit the truck after the rollover.

Survivor of the rollover, Adriana Jurado, 22, was attempting to pick up debris and belongings from the crash in the northbound lanes of travel when she was struck by a white sedan that was traveling northbound. Jurado was pronounced deceased on scene by the Office of the Medical Investigator.

The white sedan reportedly fled the scene. Currently, the make and model of the vehicle are unknown, but the vehicle has sustained heavy front-end damage on the driver’s side.
