Law and Order: Socorro Police Department blotter
The following items were taken from reports at the Socorro Police Department
Sep. 13
A caller in the 500 block of Walkway reported at 8:07 p.m. that her young daughter unlocked the door and walked out. She located her daughter walking down the roadway and returned home with the child. The child did not require medical attention and was left in the custody of the mother.
Officers on patrol located a vehicle broken down in the roadway in the 1000 block of California Street in front of Chevron. The officers assisted in moving the vehicle off the roadway and spoke with the male driver who said he purchased the truck for $1,500 and was taking it to Las Cruces. The officer noticed wires were coming from the dash and a check with NCIC showed the vehicle was not stolen. The following day, the officers were advised of a delayed stolen vehicle notification through NCIC that the truck was listed as stolen from Colorado. The vehicle was still in the parking lot where it was left and had it towed. The driver was not located.
A caller from Quick and Easy Tire and Lube reported a female suspect who entered a work truck that was parked in the parking lot and attempted to hotwire the vehicle, causing damage to the ignition wires. The caller obtained a video from the cameras at the business. The suspect has not been identified at this time.
Two subjects were contacted for sleeping in their vehicle outside of Socorro Physical Therapy on California Street. The office completed an NCIC check on the two. The female suspect had a valid arrest warrant and she was arrested and booked into SCDC. The male was released with the car.
Sep. 14
An officer met with the victim in the 1200 block of El Camino Real who reported her green 2004 Dodge Ram was taken the night before. There was a thief declaration signed and the vehicle was entered into NCIC.
A caller reported that someone attempted to kick open the front door to San Miguel Church. The caller said there is more foot traffic at the church at night and an unknown person has been turning off the main power to the church. At this time there are no suspects.
An officer received a BOLO at 7:33 p.m. for a male suspect who had abducted his children from Arizona. A description of the vehicle the suspect was driving was given to the officer, who spotted it in the 1200 block of Highway 60 and pulled it over. Three individuals were detained. A check with NCIC showed the suspect had a valid warrant for his arrest. The juveniles were taken to Socorro Police Department and the suspect was incarcerated at Socorro County Detention Center. The juveniles’ grandparents came and took the children back to their home.
Sep. 15
An officer was called at 11:36 a.m. to a residence on Fatima Road for a child locked in a car. The officer met with the male who said the child locked himself in the car but was able to unlock the door. He said what followed was a verbal altercation with the female suspect who fired a shot with her handgun. The officer met with neighbors who identified the suspect and saw her with the handgun. The female was located and she was advised of her rights. She said the handgun was in her pocket. The officers detained her and recovered the concealed handgun from the pocket. The suspect first denied firing the pistol, but later admitted to firing into the air because of dogs barking in the area. The suspect does not have a valid conceal carry license and was advised charges would be filed. The handgun was taken as evidence and the suspect was released.
Officers called at 2:32 for a fight in the Walmart parking lot. The staff directed the officers to a vehicle. The occupants of the vehicle said there was no fighting going on. While speaking with the occupants, a foil with drug residue was in plain view inside the vehicle. The officer gained consent to search the car from the registered owner and recovered the foil with a half-smoked pill with the printed number 30. The officer identified the pill as fentanyl. The male suspect that was seated where the pill was located was arrested and booked into SCDC.
Sep. 16
An officer met with the mother of a child at 4:31 p.m., who said she dropped the child off with his father for visitation. The visitation was supposed to take place at the Macey Center playground but the child could not be taken from the playground according to the order. The officer was shown the order that specified the visitation was to be done at the Macey Center playground. The officer contacted the father by phone who said he left the playground and went to the Escondida lake where bathrooms were available. The father was advised of the conditions in the order and he returned and asked to meet with officers. He said he wanted a bruise on his son’s forehead to be documented. The officers did see the bruise on the child’s forehead. The father said he asked the mother about the bruise but was never given an answer.
Sep. 17
A victim on Center Street reported at 8:18 a.m. that he received several threatening text messages from the suspect. The messages threatening to harm or kill the victim were shown to the officer. The victim said he was in fear of the threats being carried out. Charges were filed on the suspect.
A caller at a business in the 700 block of California reported at 9:27 a.m. that someone had removed the electric meters from the back of the building and disabled the security cameras in an attempt to break into the buildings. The caller said it did not look like anyone was successful in breaking in. The meter locks were cut off and on the ground. The meters were replaced and put back on. The electric coop was contacted to come to check the meters for any damage. The buildings were secure.
A caller in the 1200 block of El Camino Real reported at 9 a.m. that a male was possibly selling drugs in the parking lot. The caller said he meets with drivers of other vehicles and then leaves to go back to his home on Sean Street. The male was driving past as the officer was speaking with the caller. The suspect was contacted at his home and was advised he was no longer welcome in the parking lot due to suspicious behavior. The incident was documented.
Offices were called at 8:18 p.m. to Socorro General Hospital for a male that needed to be removed. The officer arrived and met with hospital security who said the suspect had been told to leave several times but was refusing to go. The officer advised the suspect several times to leave the property, but the suspect refused. The suspect was arrested and booked into SCDC.
Sep. 18
Officers were called at 12:06 a.m. to the McDonalds parking lot for a suspicious vehicle. When the officers arrived, the driver of the vehicle fled the parking lot. The officers were able to obtain the license plate number and a check with NCIC showed the vehicle was stolen from Albuquerque. The officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop, but the suspect driver continued to flee at 100 mph. Assisting agencies were contacted and the agencies attempted to put a spike belt on the roadway to stop the vehicle. The vehicle spiked but was lost in Belen. The driver is not known at this time.
A victim in the 400 block of Manzanares reported that an unknown suspect stole a gas generator while the victim was not home. He said the generator was locked with a chain and the suspect cut the chain to take the generator. The generator was valued at $500.
A caller reported at 10 a.m. finding a briefcase and computer monitor at a storage unit facility on NW Frontage Road. The suitcase was listed as having a handgun inside of it. The officer took possession of the items and a Glock 10mm handgun was found. The gun was not listed as stolen in the NCIC. Paperwork inside the briefcase identified an owner and a phone number, and a message was left for the owner to pick up his property. The owner contacted police and made arrangements to pick up the property. The owner later arrived and retrieved his belongings.
An officer was dispatched to Wal-Mart for a shoplifter. The officer was shown a security camera video of a male pushing a cart full of items out the fire door. A vehicle is waiting for the male, who puts the items into the vehicle and leaves the area. The male was unable to be identified by officers.
Sep 19
A victim in the 300 block of Spring Street reported hearing a male calling out for him, and said he recognized the voice as a person who he hires to clean the yard. The victim said he looked in his wallet that was near the open front door and money in the wallet was gone. He suspects the male took the money. The officer attempted to locate the male at his home but was not able to do so.
A caller at EconoLodge reported at 5:13 a.m. that someone damaged the glass on the front of the business. The damage was estimated at $500. At this time there are no suspects.
An officer patrolling in the area of Texas Avenue at 2:31 a.m. noticed a male carrying a large box for a flat-screen TV. Officer met with the male who said the TV was a gift. The officer noticed the box had a shipping label on it for an address on Grant Street. The officer took possession of the TV to check with the person on the address label. The officer checked at the address but was unable to locate anybody there. The shipping date on the label was September 16. The TV was placed into evidence until the officer could meet with somebody at the residence.
A vehicle was pulled over at 3:51 p.m. on High School Road for seat belts not being used. The driver’s information was obtained and an NCIC check showed the suspect had a suspended/revoked license with arrest pursuant. The suspect claimed he just purchased the vehicle and has not installed his interlock device yet. He was arrested and the vehicle was released to the son. The suspect was booked into SCDC.
Sep. 20
A victim in the 800 block of Calle Glorietta reported that someone stole their red TREK bicycle valued at $500 from their yard. The high-end bike was last seen by the victim at 10 p.m. the previous night. The officer checked with neighbors who had cameras outside the home. The cameras were not directed at the victim’s home.
A victim in the 500 block of Reservoir Road reported the theft of her wallet, which contained an EBT card, driver’s license, Social Security card and some money. The victim said she was told that a certain male had her wallet. She said she contacted the male, who denied having it, saying that a Native American male had the wallet. At this time the suspect is not known.
A victim in the 400 block of School of Mines reported the theft of a 29-inch dark blue Genesis Silverton bicycle from their yard. The bike was valued at $186. The victim did not have a serial number for the bicycle.
Sep. 21
An officer was dispatched to a residence in the 300 block of Nelson Place on the report of a motor vehicle that was stolen sometime during the night. The officer got all the information on the vehicle and entered it into NCIC as a stolen motor vehicle.
Officers were called to Sarracino Middle School where a student was acting out and assaulting a staff member. The officer was told the student became upset and was not calming down and was given commands to stop walking away and into a restricted area. While doing so the suspect closed the gate on a staff member’s hand causing an injury. The suspect continued to walk away from staff, causing damage to school property and swinging a pole at staff members. The suspect was disarmed and taken to the office to wait for the guardian to pick up the suspect. The suspect was taken from the school and a report was forwarded to JPPO.
Sep. 22
Officers were called at 2:09 p.m. to the 100 block of Manzanares Avenue for a fight The officer arrived and met with the males in front of the business. The office manager told the officers the two males were standing outside of the business and the manager went outside and asked if there was a problem. The two males became upset and one male went to a work truck and then ran back at the manager as if to fight him. The officer met with a witness who was with the two males, who said the manager made a comment about Mexicans, and one male went running after the manger but no physical fight occurred. The manager did not want charges filed and wanted the males removed from the front of the business. The parties were separated and removed from the area.
A driver was pulled over on Melody Loop at 11:23 p.m. for matching the description of a shoplifter from a previous date. An NCIC check showed the suspect had a suspended revoked/license with arrest pursuant. The officer located a plastic container with drug residue on the driver seat as the driver exited. The officer also located narcotics paraphernalia with a narcotic in the glass pipe. The suspect was arrested and the vehicle released to the passenger. The evidence was tested and showed positive for narcotics. The suspect was processed and booked NCIC.
Sep. 23
A victim in the 900 block of El Camino Real reported at 5:26 p.m. that someone broke a window on their vehicle and removed the car stereo. The officer was shown the window damaged on the vehicle and the stereo missing. There were no suspects identified at this time.
Officers were called to a residence on Garfield Street for a domestic violence incident. The male suspect denied hitting the victim, claiming that she fell down and hit her face. The officer met with the female victim who said she was arguing with the suspect when he struck her three times on the face. The officer did see signs of battery on the victim. The suspect was arrested and booked SCDC.
