A 26-year-old Socorro man suffered severe injuries in an attack with a machete at the Shady Nook Trailer Park on Chaparral.

On August 28, Socorro Police officers responded to a call from a man who said three people kicked in the door of his residence and attacked him. Upon arrival, officers found the man bleeding heavily with significant lacerations on his legs and feet.

Officers applied a tourniquet to the victim’s left leg before he was transported to UNM Hospital for medical treatment. Police Chief Angel Garcia reported the victim suffered multiple large lacerations, a fractured tibia, and possibly amputated and broken toes.

According to reports, officers went to suspects’ residence and used their amplified speaker to call the occupants out. After approximately an hour, 31-year-old Eric Rodriguez and 29-year-old Esperanza Hipscher came out of the home and stated no one else was in the home.

During a sweep of the residence 32-year-old Shisone Monte was found hiding in a bedroom with an injury to her left arm, said reports. Officers reported a trail of blood between the victim’s residence and the suspects’. The ambulance was called back to the scene to transport Monte to the hospital.

According to reports, Monte told officers they went to the victim’s house to smoke narcotics and when the victim made rude comments to her she started hitting him in the face. Monte told police Rodriquez produced a machete and began striking the victim, who was in the fetal position, said reports.

The three reportedly left the victim’s house and returned to their residence. Monte said she saw Rodriguez walking toward the ditch and throwing the machete.

According to reports, Rodriguez said when the victim made rude comments to Monte she attacked him with a machete. He said he stopped Monte and took the machete away, but she took the weapon back, and that was the last time he saw it.

Hipscher, who was with Rodriguez and Monte during the incident, was released from custody and later arrested. Rodriguez and Monte were placed under arrest at the time of incident and transported to the hospital, and then booked into the Socorro County detention center.

Rodriguez is facing felony charges of attempting to commit a felony, two counts of conspiracy, aggravated battery (with a deadly weapon), tampering with evidence.

Monte is facing four felony charges including, attempt to commit a felony, to wit: first degree murder, conspiracy to Commit First Degree Murder, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and conspiracy to commit aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.

Hipscher is facing three charges including, harboring or aiding a felon and two counts of conspiracy to commit tampering with evidence.

According to reports, officers were advised by the district attorney they did not have enough evidence for a search warrant on the residence, as the statement indicated it had been disposed of elsewhere.

Officers conducted a search for the machete in the ditch; however, the weapon was not recovered.
