Socorro Police Blotter
BICYCLE ACCIDENT – At 1:53 p.m., June 3, officers were called to a scene of a bicyclist and vehicle crash at the corner of Walkway and Cassidy. The officer was advised that a vehicle struck a bicyclist and then fled the scene. The bicyclist was taken to Socorro General Hospital for medical treatment. Officers were able to obtain a video from area homes which showed the suspect vehicle, a Chevrolet Avalanche truck, ran a stop sign and hit the bicyclist and took off. Officers were able to locate the driver of the vehicle and the truck in the area. The driver was a juvenile, who said he dropped his phone and picked it up. The driver struck the bicyclist then left. The case was turned over to the District Attorney’s office and the Juvenile Probation Protection Officer was contacted. The decision was made to release the juvenile and issue citations.
TRESSPASSER – An officer was dispatched to Ca De Luz, 407 Park Street, at 6:30 p.m. on June 4 for a possible trespasser and vehicle on their property. The officer was able to locate the trespasser but not the vehicle. The trespasser was advised he was no longer allowed on the property. The victim told police he was missing several solar lights from the property. She also told him that from June 1 to 4 this year, she had multiple items taken from her property. She reported 15 of the solar panel lights shaped as flames that were around her property and two 64-inch solar lights also were taken. A total of $400 worth of solar panel lights were taken from the property. Images of a possible suspect were provided by the municipal court to the victim. The suspect was not able to be identified. The officer also met with the municipal court judge and asked for a video from the count. The judge advised his staff to work on providing a video. There were no suspects listed for the theft.
STOLEN PACKAGE – A resident at 901 Walkway reported on June 4 she was notified she had a package delivered to her home. However, when she arrived home, the package was not there. The victim told police the package contained a sheet for her bed. There are no suspects.
PROPERTY DESTROYED – Police investigated damage to property at 111 ½ Montoya Place on June 4 where the victim said a wall was destroyed by someone scratching a derogatory statement into the paint. The officer was shown the damage. The victim advised police she did not want charges pressed for the damage, but he was the suspect warned he had trespassed on her property.
PORCH THEFT – A resident at 410 Nicholas Ave. reported to police on June 5 a Black Stone Griddle, still in a box, and a skateboard (long board) with green and blue print with blue wheels was stolen from the home’s front porch. The items were valued at $400.
THEFT – A individual on School of Mines Road, told police on June 5, a male and female were doing yard work a month ago and may have taken the victim’s debit card and taken $700 from their bank account. Victim notified her bank however they were not able to identify the suspects.
WARRANT – Ramona Adete of Socorro was arrested on June 6 for an outstanding warrant as well as possession of a controlled substance. When police made contact with Adete, they found her in possession of fentanyl pills, too.
CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE – Antonio D. Apachito, 24, of Alamo, was arrested on June 6 for possession of a controlled substance. Police were dispatched to 803 Spring Street, an officer noticed a male yelling and made contact with the suspect. The officer noticed a lighter and drugs next to Apachito’s jacket. The officer contacted the district attorney who said to charge the individuals. Apachito was arrested and incarcerated at the Socorro County Detention Center.
ARREST WARRANTS – Socorro Police arrested three individuals at two different locations in Socorro on outstanding arrest warrants on June 7. Two individuals were taken into custody on Highway 85 and another on I-25 at mile marker 151.
STOLEN PROPERTY – Larry Padilla, 61, of Socorro was charged with receiving stolen property on June 7. Officers met with the victim who stated he had property stolen out of a trailer on his property at 518 Center Street. The victim told police he had seen the property at the neighbor’s home next door. The officer obtained a search warrant and was able to recover an air compressor and drill. Charges were filed.
DOMESTIC DISPUTE – Police were called to a home at 701 Lucero for an argument taking place between two males who were attempting to fight each other on June 9. The officer met the female resident, and she advised officers a female suspect was yelling over the fence at her children calling them derogatory names. The male victim arrived and advised the male suspect was trying to fight him when he approached. The victim also said the other individual pushed him away. The officer was called to the suspect’s home where the female suspect told police the female victim was yelling at her and the male victim came to the suspect’s home and pushed the female suspect. The male suspect took his shirt off to confront the male victim. The officer filed harassment, assault and battery charges in the case against three individuals: Rosie Barela, 76, of Socorro; Vincent Barela, 50, of Socorro; and Michael Gonzales, 48, of Socorro.
AGGRAVATED BATTERY – Larry Padilla, 61, of Socorro, was charged with aggravated battery and criminal damage to property after an incident at 7:25 a.m. on June 9, at 803 Spring Street. According to the police report, Padilla got upsent when he asked the female suspect for his money, he allegedly hit the female on the face. She asked that charges be filed.
PUBLIC NUISANCE – Police were notified that an individual had been sleeping for several hours outside a store located at 924 Highway 85, on 4:40 p.m. on June 9. The officer attempted to wake and remove Daniel Guerro, 47, of Alamo. He would not comply; thus he was arrested and taken to Socorro County Detention Center where he was booked and charged with two counts of criminal trespass (posted) and two counts of public nuisance.
BEER THEFT – Officers were called to the Capital Bar in Socorro at 8:21 a.m. for a possible burglary. Police were advised that the alarm was triggered overnight, and the owner was contacted by the security company. Because of high winds the owner thought it could be a false alarm, but after reviewing video a male suspect was seen entering the bar and taking beer from the freezer. The male left and returned later in the night taking more beer from the freezer. The officer was not able to identify the male as his face was not shown on the video. Police are waiting for more information.
CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE – Bianca Guerro, 20, of Socorro was arrested for possession of a controlled substance after an incident at 11:30 a.m., June 10, at 106 Center Street. An officer was called to the probation office for a suspect having drugs during the check in. The officer was shown the drugs and was able to get a test kit to test the substance. The substance was positive for methamphetamine. Guerro was taken to the Socorro County Detention Center.
AGGRAVATED ASSAULT – Police were called to B Street Park at 2:30 a.m. on June 11 in reference to a man assaulting a person with a stick. When officers arrived, they saw the male holding a stick in his hand and the female victim. After verbal commands from the officer, the suspect dropped the stick and told police nothing happened. The female, however, told police the man was asking for sex and when she refused the male suspect swung the stick at the victim multiple times, saying he was going to kill her. Arrested and taken to the Socorro County Detention Center on two charges each of aggravated assault and disorderly contact was Charlie Mexicano, 54, of Socorro.
BIKE STOLEN – A bike was reported stolen from 600 Neel Street at 10:45 a.m. on June 11. The reporting party said the bike was taken from the front porch of the victim’s home. The bicycle was obtained from a bike sharing program through New Mexico Tech.
RESISTING ARREST – Daniel J. Yanecko, 45, of Socorro, was contact by police officers for having a valid arrest warrant. Yanecko fled when the officer attempted to make contact. The officer was able to catch him after a chase. Yanecko was found in possession of a file filled with crystal methamphetamine. He was arrested and taken to Socorro County Detention Center on June 12 at 3:30 p.m. Charges included two counts each of possession of a controlled substance, resisting, evading or obstructing an officer as well as his outstanding warrant.
DISORDERLY CONDUCT – Junior Aleck Lima, 24, of Socorro, was arrested for disorderly conduct after an incident reported on June 12 on California Street. The victim told police Lima threw rocks at the door to the business overnight, possibly because Lima’s girlfriend was fired from the business owned by the victim’s family. Police were shown a video showing the suspect throwing rocks. An officer met with the suspect and advised him of his rights. Lima denies the incident, though charges were filed.
PROPERTY DAMAGE – Joseph C. Gonzales, 48, of Socorro, was charged with criminal damage to property of a household member and deprivation of property to a household member after an incident at 12:21 on June 13 at 407 Bullock Street. The officer met with the victim who advised the victim came home drunk and punched two windows. The broken windows were valued at $100 each.
BATTERY – Michael A. Requejo, 35, of Socorro, faces charges of battery after an incident at 10:30 p.m. on June 13 at 904 Cuba Road. The victim told police Requejo was helping the suspect with some plumbing. Requejo was upset with his girlfriend and was taking it out on the victim. The victim left the scene, but Requejo was chasing him. The victim ran and was tackled and received an injury to his ear. The victim asked that charges be filed.
MINI-BIKES STOLEN – Police were advised on June 13 at 1:30 p.m. that two minibikes were stolen from a residence at 112 Montoya. The bikes were chained up to a trailer and the lock was cut and the bikes removed. The victim valued the minibikes at $800 each.
