SEC socorro electric co-op magdalena substation

As of Friday, April 11, Socorro Electric Cooperative (SEC) customers who draw their power from the Magdalena Substation will no longer experience scheduled outages from the 69kv/Magdalena Substation Project.

This area includes residents of Magdalena, Alamo Navajo Reservation, the VLA, Dusty, Beaverhead, Dusty and Luera Peak.

“The phase we are in now is removing the old poles,” Manuel Gonzales, SEC CEO, said. He added that during the process of replacing the over 60-year-old utility poles safety breakers will be put in place as an extra precaution, which could create a temporary power outage if an animal or other foreign object touches the line while the crew is working on it.

This year SEC turns 80 years old, and Gonzales invited all SEC customers to attend their annual meeting on April 26 at the Macy Center at New Mexico Tech. The co-op will be giving away 24 different door prizes to members that have been donated by vendors. The grand prize will be a Dodge 1500 single cab truck, Gonzales said. SEC customers must register for the drawings between 1-3pm and be present for the drawing. The event starts at 3pm.
