Benji Maldonado 1974-2025

Benji Maldonado, age 50, of Socorro, New Mexico. Born October 7, 1974. He passed away peacefully in his home on February 16th, 2025, after a long battle with health issues.

Benji was raised by his father Ernesto Maldonado, and grandma Adela who loved him more than words could express.

Benji loved the Cleveland Browns, his family, friends, and his wife. Benji’s teasing, quarrelsome personality demanded attention where ever he was. He was known and loved by many. Benji always had a story to tell, a comment to make, or a joke to say. He was a party waiting to happen. His gruff sense of humor will be remembered giving us stories to tell for years to come.

Benji is survived by his devoted wife of 27 years Geraldine Maldonado; step daughter Desiree Martin (Luke Martin); step son Justin Smith; grandchildren Destany Smith, Isaiah Reyna, Matthew Smith, Nathaniel Smith, Joshua Smith, Makenzie Smith, Aiden Smith, and Athena Smith; his brothers Joseph Maldonado, and Manuel Armijo. His aunts (sisters); Maria Gutierez (Joe), Marcella Maldonado, Lila Maldonado, Gloria Gonzales (Fred); uncles William Maldonado, Selso Maldonado. His nieces, nephews, many cousins and beloved god children.

Benji is proceeded in death by his parents, his grandma Adela. Many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

A memorial service will be held at 2pm on Saturday March 8th at the KC Hall.

Benji’s final care was entrusted to Trujillo Family Funeral Home.
